CACLV in conjunction with the Lehigh and Northampton County Assistance Offices – manages the LIHEAP Crisis Program in the two counties. (LIHEAP is short for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.)
The Crisis Program is designed to provide emergency service to eligible persons who face a home heating related emergency.
The county assistance office for the county in which a person resides determines whether he or she is eligible for the program. In general you will be eligible if your household income falls below a certain level during the last 12 months.
Period of Operation
The program is intended to operate during cold weather. In general this often includes part of November, all of December, January, and February and part of March. However the starting and ending dates change from year to year.
In most cases CACLV is responsible to arrange to have the problem addressed within 48 hours of receipt of a referral from Lehigh or Northampton County. As a general rule this means hiring a qualified heating contractor to identify and make necessary repairs where possible. In most cases CACLV is responsible to inspect the work completed by the heating contractor.
